Women Photograph Opens 2023 Grant Cycle

The organization is offering $5000 and $10,000 grants for women and non-binary photographers

Women Photograph has officially opened its 2023 grant cycle and is looking to award $5000 and $10,000 grants to women and non-binary documentary photographers. Five $5000 grants will be awarded for new or ongoing projects and one $10,000 grant will be awarded to a photographer focused on an ongoing documentary project. The $5000 grants are thanks to support from Nikon and MPB, while Leica will be supporting the $10,000 grant.

The grants are open to women, nonbinary, transgender and intersex documentary photographers of any nationality. You don’t need to be a member of Women Photograph to apply and its one of the few grant opportunities that doesn’t require an application fee.

Interested photographers are encouraged to submit stories rather than individual images to be considered for the opportunity. Photographers can apply for both the Women Photograph Project Grants for $5000 and the Women Photograph + Leica Grant, but only one submission per open call is allowed.grant recipients will retain ownership of their work, although Women Photograph will ask for promotional images from the project to promote the grant program and the photographer.

Applications for both grant opportunities will be available until May 15.

The Women Photograph grant program was established in 2017. The goal of the grants is to elevate the voices of women and non-binary photographers. The grant program is just one way that Women Photograph is helping to shift the makeup of the worldwide photojournalism community to be fully intersectional and better represent the communities that the work represents.

Interested photographers can apply for these grant opportunities on the Women Photograph website.
